"The Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration".
In the upper row from left: James Weddell with the "Jane" and the "Beaufoy", Sir James Clark Ross with
the "Erebus" and "Terror", Neil Alison Mackintosh with the "Discovery II" and Sir Douglas Mawson with the
"Discovery".
In the middle row from left: Captain James Cook with the "Resolution", Dr. William Speirce Bruce with the
"Scotia", Captain Robert Falcon Scott with the "Discovery" and Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink with the
"Southern Cross".
In the lower row from left Sir Ernest Shackleton with the "Endurance", John Riddoch Rymill with the "Penola",
Captain Victor Marchesi with the "William Scoresby" and Sir Vivian Fuchs with the "Magga Dan".

From left top are depicted: Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink with the "Southern Cross",
Dr. William Speirce Bruce with the "Scotia", Captain Robert Falcon Scott with the "Discovery" and
Sir Ernest Shackleton with the "Endurance". All four stamps on this sheet have the value
"Airmail Letter".

Cayman Islands, a set with four stamps "Unique Transportation", actually for Santa Claus.
On this stamp we see him aboard a sailing vessel.

St. Kitts, a set with three stamps "Silver Jubilee Independence". Among them this stamp
"Sailing Towards our Future".

Falkland Island, a souvenir sheet with one stamp
"Port Louis 1833 -2008".

Falkland Islands, a set with four stamps "Farewell Queen Elizabeth 2".
We see "QE2" during launching, on the high seas, in front of the new port of Dubai
and with her beautiful side view.

South Georgia and Southern Sandwich Islands, a set with four stamps
"Letters Patent Centenary".
From left top are depicted HMS "Sappho", Magistrate's Residence,
Magistrate James Innes Wilson and SS "Coronda".

Åland, a single stamp "Russian system spar buoys".
We see a coastal craft with some spar buoys.
This stamp will be issued in February 2009.

Comores, a sse-tenant of six stamps and a souvenir sheet with one stamp "Submarines".
From left top the "Nautilus" of 1800, the "Brandtaucher" 1850, "Pioneer" 1861,
"Flach" 1866, "Ictineo I" 1858 and "Resurgam" 1878 are depicted.
On the sheet we see the "Turtle" of 1776.

Portugal, a set with four stamps
"CUF Lisboa, Barreiro 100 anos 2008".
Among them this stamp with the launching of a vessel.

Pitcairn Islands, ein Block mit einer Marke
" 200th Anniversary of the Discovery of Community"
In 1808 Captain Folger with the US "Topaz" arrived Pitcairn Island and was welcomed by John Adams,
the last man of the "Bounty" mutiny.

Guinea Bissau, a souvenir sheet with one stamp
"Pioneers of Marine Transport".
On the stamp we see Vasco da Gama, right on the sheet Fernando Magellan is depicted.

Croatia a set with three stamps "Lighthouses".
The towers of Zaglav, Pinida and Vnetak are depicted.

Espana, a set with six stamps "Lighthouses 2008".
We see in the upper row Barbaria / Formentera, Irta / Castellon and Pechiguera / Lanzarote.
In the lower row Silleiro / Pontevedra, Torredembarra / Tarragona and Punta Orchilla / El Hierro.

Indonesia, a set with four stamps and a souvenir sheet with one stamp
"200 Years of the Great Post Road".
The island of Java is depicted, the "Great Post Road" started and ended with a lighthouse.
The four single stamps are integrated on the sheet to one stamp.

Germany, one personalized stamp with the navy provider vessel "Frankfurt am Main".

To show some more stamps and/or whole souvenir-sheets the pictures are high
compressed, so accuracy goes down.
